Shop Find of the Week

accessoireblognewshopfindgraphic

I must have a slight obsession with England of late, because my next shop from hails from Great Britain.  As you may remember, my last shop was LeShopUK and is a British shop!!

This week I have chosen a wonderful and whimsical shop, somethingtodo,  which is home is the wonderful and whimsical jewelry of Claire Lockwood.  Her jewelry is quirky, offbeat, original and certainly beautiful.  I love it!  I think her shop name is so quirky and original just like her jewelry and I guess that is one of the things that first drew me to her shop, then I read her shop introduction which plainly states, “something to do with your hands.”  Right there she had me and then I started to really study her pieces of jewelry, and the more I looked the more excited I became over her “masterpieces” of design.

She obviously has the “touch” and “eye” to put together pieces of jewelry that are interesting and not your average piece of jewelry that everyone else is wearing.  I like that about her designs.  She seems to have a boldness in her designs, a flair for the original, a fearlessness that I sometimes wish I had in my designs and so much appreciate.   Her style of design is so eclectic, drawing from a combination of different elements, textures, colours, styles.  I would wear any one of her pieces in a heartbeat!  In fact, her pieces are on my ever growing wish list of things!!

According to her brief bio, she is a self-taught jewelry designer. She states that she makes her unique jewelry from “a wide array of materials, including handmade artisan beads and components, vintage pieces and found objects, semi-precious stones and gemstones, czech glass and other assorted lovelies.”  She also sells her handmade beads on Etsy.

But first I would like to show you a few of Claire’s beautiful creations…

As you can see, Clair is a very talented young woman with a natural gift for putting together designs that just draw the eye.  I encourage you to visit her shop and view all her designs.  You are in for quite a treat of eye candy.

Claire also mentioned her bead shop on Etsy, she has somethingtodobeads, here are some sweet little birds that are listed in her bead shop.  She made them by hand with polymer clay and then painted them with acrylics.

The New Things I’m Exploring!! Graphics and Bunnies

I am so excited  to show you a few things that I have been designing and it has nothing to do with jewelry.  I have always loved writing, but I have never really called myself a writer.  I used to write research reports in my younger years and before my creative life took over.  But research and writing the accompanying reports are much different from creative writing and the stories I write every so often on Medium.com.  You can find them here:  https://medium.com/@lotsofjewels.

Anyway, I have always loved graphic design so I am now playing around with some easy stuff.  I am in no way saying that I am even close to the true graphic design professionals.  But I am having fun during a difficult time in my life.  In December, I suffered a rather severe fall that resulted in a head injury, tears in my shoulder muscles and a back injury.  I  have been mostly confined to staying home because I can’t drive or work outside my home with my injuries.  My jewelry is a wonderful outlet, but I also love technology and learning new skills so I have been on Picmonkey (a free online photo editing site) playing around and here are a few of my very elementary designs!

First, here is my new graphic for my Shop Find of the Week.  I made it with the blank canvas option on Picmonkey and just had a great time picking and choosing which elements to add.  I used a few of the “sticker” shapes and changed the colors, then added some focal elements and text.

Please note:  All work shown here is the property of Cherie Klinger, Accessoire Blog, and Accessoire Jewelry.  Please do not reproduce without listing the following credit: Designed and Created by Cherie Klinger of Accessoire.

For the children’s book that I have been having fun with, I am using the static bunny and giraffe photos from Picmonkey’s options.  I have five pages completed and hope to complete an entire little book.  Then I guess I will read it to myself and give a copy to my nieces and nephews. Somehow I don’t think my 19 and 14-year-old want me reading a story to them entitled, Trixie and Dex.  The stars of the book are a little bunny named Trixie and a giraffe named Dex.

And below is page 3 to give you a sample of Trixie and Dex together.  If you know anything about my DO*CARE*ACT blog, then you can guess that I have to add a little life lessons about helping others, giving and the miracle of a caring heart!

Sorry about the disclaimer written above, but I feel that I have to add that since there are some people who do like to take things and use them without the proper permission or credit given.  I do not mind one using my photos, I only ask that the proper credit be given.   I do not use a watermark, so please do not copy these little graphics that I have created without attaching the proper credit.  Thank you very much!!   You may not think they are much, especially the graphic designers out there, but they are my little piece of graphic heaven and I am having fun.

We all have a well of creativity inside of us, just allow yourself to try to do something that will bring a smile to your face.  You deserve it!

Hope you all are staying busy and creative.

Much peace!

Shop Find of the Week ☞ LeShopUK

accessoireblognewshopfindgraphic

I say this every time I find a new shop that delights my eye and senses, “I am in love!”  This time I mean, I really do!  I am swooning… lusting… staring… hitting the heart doohickey!!  I am like a lovesick teenager.♥♥♥

This shop has photography ranging from street, animal (cute duck feet for heaven sakes) to UK-themed photos.  It even has air balloons shaped like cute things!  How am I supposed battle such wizardry??

I love street art and photography ☑ check.   Love animals  ☑ check.  Love the UK  ☑ check.  Great Inventory + Superb Photography = Shop of the Week!!

The shop owner is Virginia Allwood, a Parisian now living in Bristol, England, who says in her Shop’s bio page that she carries her camera with her everywhere.  Lucky us, because she snaps some fantastic photos and we can buy them!!

ALL PHOTOS SHOWN BELOW ARE THE SOLE PROPERTY AND ARE CREDITED TO VIRGINIA ALLWOOD OF LeShopUk.

ON SALE Look - London photography - black and white - Street photography - Night photography - Sign photography - word photography

Love this piece because it is just a simple shot and slightly off-center, this is the type of photo I would frame and hang on my wall.

ON SALE Rainbow Over Coloured Houses - Street photography - Rainbow photography - Bristol photography - Home design

Perfect timing + colourful homes + skilled photographer = great photo!  This is another of my favorite photos… I really think all the photos in this shop are my favorites.

Allison’s photo was chosen to be the cover of the 2014 Visit Bristol guide!! [photo credit LeShopUk.com/Virgina Allwood]

Obviously, Virginia is brilliantly talented and by looking at her blog and reading her bio on her About page in her Etsy shop, she seems to be a hardworking and fun-loving person.  I just love when I find someone with talent and an eye for taking photos at just the right moment in time.  Please visit Virginia’s shop and perhaps you will find something to buy and treasure.
The photo below shows Virginia with her man —> Dan Martin,  boyfriend, PR guru and as she describes it “shoulder to cry on.”  Something we all need!!As stated on their blog, “Dan is an award-winning social media expert and online journalist.  For over 10 years, Dan, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, has worked for some of the UK’s leading internet publishers as a senior reporter and editor.”  It looks like Virginia has the quality product, tools to promote, and the personality to expand her lovely items around the world.  As stated on their blog, “He has also helped several private and public sector organisations improve the way they engage with their audiences online and in 2010 was named in the top 10 most influential political bloggers on Twitter by the Independent.”

Wow, what a dynamic duo!!  You can read more about them at their blog http://www.leshopuk.com/blog.

And finally, the last photo pick of the day… I think!!

Good Ol' Days - vintage blue car - street photography - 1960s nostalgia - living room decor

I love vintage/antique cars and this photo is beautiful because it depicts the car sitting on a street that shows little indication which era this photo was taken.  Obviously, Ms. Allwood is quite young and she is the photographer and her handy skills allows her a look back in time.  Also, the color of the car lends a beautiful contrast to the old and historic war-era buildings in the background.

I hope you enjoyed discovering this new shop and its beauties with me.   I have listed LeShopUK’s online shop, Twitter, Blog, and Facebook sites below.  I hope you take the time to support this lovely woman and her creative photography!

Until next time, keep creating and much peace!

My New Favorite Ring by Accessoire Jewelry!!

When I saw these perfectly round wooden beads I wanted them immediately.  There is really nothing unusual about them except that I loved them and knew I that was going to go a different direction with them.  I was not going to use them to make earrings, bracelets or necklaces.  At least at first!!

Modern Wood Circle Ring, Sterling Silver and Wood Ring,Wood Sterling Minimalist Ring

Modern Wood Circle Ring by Accessoire Jewelry

I began by using some recycled flat matte metal circles I had from some old pieces of jewelry that I had ripped apart and glued them to the wood.  I then used my straight ear pins to plug the holes on the sides and glued them in so there were little silver circles on the sides.  You can’t see them in the photo.

Using silver German square wire,  I fashioned my ring base and used a super sturdy jewelry glue and adhered the silver base to the wood.  I used a tape/mesh and glue to further anchor the metal to the wood.  I can attest to the fact that this ring is quite sturdy, that is if one is careful to keep the ring from being smashed in a door (yes, I did that!).  I usually test a new design for a while before I offer it in my online shop! And when I say test I mean that I am quite clumsy and forgetful, so I will often make a copy of one of my new designs and wear it to test the glue, connections, ease of wear, and response of others and my feel for the design.  Most pass my test, some don’t and end up back in the “redesign” pile!!

… the “try again” pile!!

And sometimes I end up really loving a design and wear it and love it to bits. I have already sold some of these rings.  We all know what it is like to sell our jewelry right off our body to people who love a design.  It is humbling and I am always so thankful that someone actually likes my stuff! I am so happy to be doing what I love everyday.

If you click on the photo it will take you directly to the listing in my shop!

I hope you have a wonderful week filled with peace and much creativity!

Great Shop – Peg and Awl Shop

blog-blitz

This little beauty comes from IAMTHELAB (http://www.iamthelab.com/blog-blitz/)

I am quite literally in awe (pun in intended) of this shop that I am about to talk about, and I found them while perusing my favorite blog of handmade goodness over at IAMTHELAB.  They are the Peg and Awl shop and I am excited to introduce you to them.  I am following the rules of IAMTHELAB’s Blog Blitz and the photo I use are in accordance with said rules.  All the photos used are the property of the Peg and Awl shop.

First, I would like to give you the direct link back to IAMTHELAB’s post on this shop… it is a wonderful piece written by Brett Torrey Haynes http://www.iamthelab.com/craftiness-handmade/get-inspired-more-handmade-goodness-from-peg-and-awl/.

The Peg and Awl shop is run by a husband and wife team and they are amazing in their widespread approach to handmade. Here are a few of the pieces made by the husband and wife team that are a creators of this shop:

Small Botanical Desk Caddy

Peg and Awl
Small Botanical Desk Caddy

The Small Botanical Desk Caddy is one of my favorite things because I can see using it on my desk for brushes, pencils, or even tools I use in my jewelry making.  This shop’s inventory ranges from dry goods, jewelry, home, office/studio, kitchen, garden, journals, decoupage, photography, and one of a kind items.

Here is an example of their one of a kind items:

Book Necklace: Ben Franklin 1906

Book Necklace: Ben Franklin 1906, “This useable and wearable miniature book is covered with a bit of an antique leather postcard from 1906 still baring the original 1 cent Ben Franklin stamp and postmark.”  - Peg and Awl

This is one of those shop that my mind just says “uh-oh” the minute I see it, because I know that it has everything that I love to pause, touch, and wonder over for long moments at a time.  The little tiny books remind me of books I used to gather as a child.  Good craftsmanship can be found at every turn in this shop.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and find time to leave them some positive feedback and perhaps take something with you.

I know I plan on making a list of must haves and then purchasing a few items to add to my collections of handmade love!

Changing Designs, Finding Inspiration, Staying True!

My own design aesthetic feels like it is evolving, I have always loved leather and can remember when I was a teen buying hand tooled leather bracelets. I am always intrigued with new ways to design jewelry and the interesting materials used in design.

I am the type of person that thrives on redecorating, rearranging furniture, clothes, the color of my hair, nails, etc. (although I have slowed down on the hair color)… and my family can tell you about my obsession with lamps.  I know that just changing out the lamps in a room can make me feel that the room has a fresh feel.  I guess I get bored easily and need the change and that can show through in my designs.  I am never quite happy making the same thing over and over again, it feels too much like a production line.

One design that I do tend to make over and over is my Gingko Leaf earrings, although right now I do not have any in my Etsy store.  I have to get going on making some more.  They have always been a very popular design of mine.

Accessoire on Etsy (SOLD)

**Here is one of my Gingko Leaf designs.**

Recently, I began to reevaluate my designs and ask myself “what designs do I like, what jewelry do I want to wear right now, and would I wear my own designs?” and in response I began to change my designs to reflect the answers that I found to my questions.

Here are a few of my new designs:

TierraCast® Antiqued Copper-plated Focal Plate with Leather Cord, Embellished Leather and Copper Bracelet, Adjustable

TierraCast® antiqued copper-plated “pewter” focal piece laced with the light brown leather. I have affixed the wood beads to the leather to keep them in the position you see them here. and then placed copper coil end caps and a copper lobster clasp. I made the chain extender so that you can adjust the size of your bracelet.

I used this patina verdigris filigree piece and bent and lightly sanded the finish to attain a soft color with copper showing through the finish. I then accented with a beautiful brown leather cord and copper elements.

Modern Wood Circle Ring, Sterling Silver and Wood Ring,Wood Sterling Minimalist Ring

I love the color of this round wood bead, I then added the small upcycled silver oval and made the ring base with sterling silver German square wire.

Leather Cord Choker, Leather and Beaded Choker Necklace, Beaded Necklace, Silver Plate, Handcrafted Hook and Eye Closure

I love brown leather cord and added small wood, glass, and silver plate beads and tiny silver tubes with the silver plated long tube bead as the focal point with a small silver heart charm. I handcrafted the hook and eye clasp with sterling silver German square silver.

I am acting as my jewelry model!

I used this flat cable 16k gold necklace and added the adjustable chain that adjusts necklace from a 16 inch necklace to an 18 inch necklace. I then made the gold bar focal piece with gold metal cubes and black iridescent glass pieces.

My dainty flat sterling silver chain and handmade sterling silver circle and bronze wire pendant with metal heart charm.

I just keep moving forward with my designs, always amazed by the wonderful handmade artisans that I find and get to know.  I would love to hear how your designs have changed through the years and what new skills you may have added and used in your designs?

Much Peace and Creativity!
